Robert Sweeney
Sgt. Robert Lepple Marine Vietnam Veteran was  honored as the
Grand Marshall of this year’s Pelham Memorial Day Parade. Born and
raised in Pelham and a 1962 graduate of Pelham Memorial High
School, Mr. Lepple enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1965. After rigorous
training at Paris Island and Camp Jejune, he received orders sending
him to the Republic of Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. He was involved in
numerous combat operations in Chu Lai, Phu Bai and Da Nang with the
2nd Marine Division and then received numerous ribbons including a
Presidential Unit Citation.

After returning from Vietnam, Mr. Lepple was stationed at the Naval Air
Station in Hawaii were he received his honorable discharge and
returned to Pelham. Mr. Lepple is a long time member of Post #50
Mr. Lepple is leaving Pelham this year for his new home in upstate New
York where he plans to relax and get in some fishing and hunting.
He donated the bronze plaque for the Gold Star Mother’s Memorial in
Veterans Park to be installed in honor of all the young men who died in
Harry Engstrom Navy USNR-R, Petty Officer 3rd class.
Served active duty April 1967 to December 1968 Republic of
South Vietnam, combat service (three tours)COMSERVRON5.

DMZ in the Gulf of Tonkin. Served, reserve duty New Rochelle
Navy and Marine Corp Center, surface division #3-69 assigned

Joseph L. Brown Airman First Class (E-4).  Born and raised in
Washington, DC. Served active duty from December 5, 1956 until May
6, 1963. Basic Training at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX. Attended
technical school for Communications Center Specialist at F.E. Warren
AFB, Cheyenne, WY. After school was assigned to the Strategic Air
Command at the 321st Bomb Wing, Pinecastle AFB, FL. Was sent
overseas when transferred to the 49th Communications Squadron,
attached to the 16th Air Force (SAC) located at Torrejon AB, Spain.
While there had TDY assignments to North Africa and other European
locations. Returned to the CONUS with an assignment to the 93rd
Bomb Wing (SAC) located at Castle AFB, CA. After about two years
was reassigned to the 641st Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron
which was part of NORAD, located at Melville AFS, Labrador. While at
Melville worked as a disk jockey for the local AFRS Radio Station.
After serving a year at this isolated duty station was sent back to the
CONUS to the 2045th Communications Group, part of the Air Force
Communications Service, located at Andrews AFB, MD. After
honorable discharge was immediately employed at NASA
Headquarters in Washington, DC.  A Member of the American Legion
since 1997
Louisa J. Gonzalez Technical Sergeant (E6). 1987, joined the U.S.
New Orleans, LA. Was then assigned to Fort Schuyler in New York. My
Navy service lasted four ½ years. In 1991 transferred to the US Air
Stationed at Homestead AFB in Florida.  Attended Tech School for
Information Management Specialist at Keesler Air Force Base, MS.
1994 transferred to the 337 Airlift Squadron at Westover AFB, MA. In
2000 promoted to Technical Sergeant. In 2004 Attended Paralegal
Course at Maxwell AFB, AL. Retired in 2008 after 21 ½ years of service

While on a C47 cargo plane delivering cargo to ground troops Cargo
plane caught fire and crashed. I was one of the fortunate ones.
After 40 years of treatment for PTSD and TBI (traumatic brain Injury)
Three (3) back surgery’s, Cancer, I still volunteer at Montrose and
Fordham VA. Hospital,  My motto is
